  • North Park field (Scene where female sits on bench, male walks past.

  • Actor's house (where female finds male over the internet.)

Planning: Storyboard

Below is the story board for my music video for the song 'Odds Are' by Barenaked Ladies.

Rolling in the Deep- Green Screen/ Lip Sync test

Here is a short clip from my work, editing together the song 'Rolling in the Deep' and a young girl lip syncing to the song. In order to do this I used the editing software Adobe Premiere Pro.

Green Screen Test

This is a test to see how to use a green screen and how to put one piece of footage on top of another.

Adobe Premiere Pro Practice Edit -Macklemore "Wings"

Below is part of my edit of the song "Wings" by Macklemore. To edit this together I used Adobe Premiere Pro on an iMac.

Below this is the original Music video for the song "Wings"

Planning: 60 Second Pitch

As my song has a love theme, my music video is going to reflect this. There will be a young man who meets a girl and instantly falls in love with her. At first it seems that she is not interested but as the song progresses it becomes clear to the young man that the girl does in fact have feelings for him. The video ends with the two meeting up and going out together, linking to the song lyrics "But it’s a twenty-three or four-to-one that you can fall in love by the end of this song".

Research: Audience

I did some research o nwhat type of person listens to Baranaked Ladies. I found out that a lot of their fan base are women, though there are a lot of guys that also listen to the band.
I found out that a typical BNL fan could be seen wearing mainly jeans and t-shirts with trainers, although they aren't afraid to dress smart in shirts, jackets, ties and black shoes.
The age range of the fans is from anywhere between 16-40+, they have a broad age range of fans since they have been going since 1988, so you have the more mature fans who listen to them because they were around in their youth, and the younger generation are into them because they are not your avarage Alt Rock band, also they did the theme to the widely popular US show 'The Big Bang Theory' which younger people tend to watch.
Because of their Alt Rock genre, fans of BNL might also listen to other late 80's alt rock band such as 'Crash Test Dummies', 'Goo Goo Dolls', 'Gin Blossoms', 'Toad the Wet sprocket' and others.

Research: Barenaked Ladies "Odds Are" Lyric Video

Here is the lyrical video of my chosen song, "Odds Are" by Barenaked Ladies. I was unable to find an official music video for the song.

Research: Lyrical Analysis

It is my opinion that the message that this song is trying to give out is that, although there is alot of pain and disaster in the world, there is still a chance to find love and that there is a higher chance of you falling in love than there is for example having a plane crash.

"Struck by lightning
Sounds pretty frightening
But you know the chances are so small
...
But theres a twenty three or for-to-one
That you will fall in love
By the end of this song..."

The small extract helps to put my idea across. It says that the chances of being hit by lightning are 'So small' and that theres a 'Twenty three or four-to-one' chance of finding love by the end of the song.

It is clear that this song is meant to be very uplifting so that if someone who is struggeling to find a partner listens to it, they start to feel more confident in themselves because they know that they will find that special someone at some point.

"The odds are that
We will probably be alright
Odds are we're gunna be alright
Odds are were gunna be alright tonight..."

The chorus really helps to push the idea in to the listner that you are much more likely to find somebody that you love by the end of the song than you are to get hit by a train or eaten by a great white shark.

Research: Chosen Song Lyrics

'Odds Are' By Barenaked Ladies

Struck by lightning, sounds pretty frightening
But you know the chances are so small
Stuck by a bee sting, nothing but a B-thing
Better chance you’re gonna bite it at the mall
But it’s a twenty-three four-to-one
That you can fall in love by the end of this song
So get up, get up
Tell the bookie put a bet on “not a damn thing will go wrong”

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright tonight

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright for another night

Hit by the A-Train, crashed in an airplane

I wouldn’t recommend either one

Killed by a Great White or a meteorite

I guess there ain’t no way to go that’s fun

But somewhere in the world someone is gonna fall in love by the end of this song
So get up, get up
No it’s never gonna let up so you might as well sing along

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright tonight

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright for another night

Sure things go wrong, but I’ll take my chances

Odds are long, so why not play?

Struck by lightning, sounds pretty frightening

But you know the chances are so small

Hit by the A-Train, crashed in an airplane

Better chance you’re gonna bite it at the mall

But it’s a twenty-three four-to-one
That you can fall in love by the end of this song
So get up, get up
No I’m never gonna let up so you might as well sing along

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright tonight

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright for another night

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright tonight

The odds are that we will probably be alright

Odds are we gonna be alright, odds are we gonna be alright for another night.

Research: Demographics and Psychographics

Demographics:
Used to help companies decide on a target audience for a particular product, demographics looks at things such as age, gender and social class to decide how and where to advertise and who to aim their product(s) at. An example of this is if a girl band (e.g. The Saturdays) were releasing an new album, it would be aimed at younger girls (10- 18) and would be advertised in a girly type of magazine or a weekly gossip magazine (e.g. OK!)

Psychographics:
This looks deeper into the consumer as an individual to help give the creator of a particular product a better understanding of the people buying their product(s) thus helping increase sales and profit. Some examples of what psychographics looks at are the activities the person partakes in, their views and behaviour and their interests and opinions.

Research: Andrew Goodwin's Theories About Music Videos

Andrew Goodwin’s 6 Features of Music Videos
In his book Dancing in the Distraction Factory Andrew Goodwin points out characteristics and features that can be found in music videos.

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics.
(e.g. stage performance in metal videos, dance routine for boy/girl band, aspiration in Hip Hop).

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. The lyrics are represented with images.
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

3. There is a relationship between music and visuals. The tone and atmosphere of the visual reflects that of the music.
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).

5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, mirrors, stages, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.

6. There are often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).

Research: Music Videos

As a homework we were asked to find a music video that we thought was good and put it onto our blogs, however I could not decide on one particular video so I have chosen a number of music video's which are creative/interesting in their own ways.

Research: Dave Grohl's SXSW Keynote Speech 2013

In todays lesson we watched Dave Grohl's SXSW Keynote speech which he gave earlier in 2013 in which he touches upon how music from his past has shaped his future. Below is the video of his speech.

Me as a Consumer of Music.

This first Blog is a brief overview of me as a consumer of music...

What Music do I Listen to/Like?
My taste in music is odd in the fact that I don't like one single type of music, I listen to all sorts depending on what I fancy at that particular time. However if I were to give a type of music I listen to the most it would probably be 60/70's rock such as Guns n Roses, Meatloaf and Queen. Below is a collection of some different bands/artists I listen to.

Metallica, Misfits, Iron Maden, Michael Jackson/Jackson 5, Mumford and Sons...
Along with much, MUCH more!!!!
Music I don't listen to.
There are some types of music which I refuse to listen to as they are utter rubbish and so bad that a dying cat choking on a piece of mouldy cheddar in a pool of sewer water could make a better sound than what these artists/bands could produce:
  • One Direction
  • JLS
  • The Wanted
  • Justin Bieber
  • nicki minaj
And other such bands/"artists".

How I listen to my music?
The main way I listen to my mysic is through my phone, however I do sometimes listen to music through my laptop at home, using websites such as YouTube to do so. I also own an iPod which I have some of my music on but not all of it. I often have the radio on so I listen to alot of music via the radio. With my phone, laptop and iPod I use my headphones to listen to my music.

When and Where I listen to music.
I dont really listen to music very often but when I do it is normally when I am chillin' in my room or when im walking to places.
