Music magazines were very prolific in the United Kingdom, with the NME (short for New Musical Express) leading sales since its first issue in 1952. NME had a longstanding rival in Melody Maker, an even older publication that had existed since 1926; however, by 2001, falling circulation and the rise of internet music sites caused the Melody Maker to be absorbed into its old rival and cease publishing, Several other British magazines such as Select and Sounds also folded between 1990 and 2000. Current UK music magazines include Q, Kerrang! and Mojo (all published by EMAP).Magazines with a focus on pop music rather than rock and aimed at a younger market include the now-defunct Smash Hits and the BBC's Top of the Pops, which outlived the television show on which it was based. The longest running music magazine of the U.K. is BMG, founded in 1903 by Clifford Essex. BMG, which stands for Banjo, Mandolin, and Guitar, is the oldest fretted instrument focused publication and actively promotes acoustic instruments of all kinds. Major music magazines in the United States include Rolling Stone (founded in 1967) and Spin (founded in 1985). Clash magazine was voted Music Magazine of the Year in 2004 and is the second largest UK online presence. Clash was also Awarded Magazine of the Year at the PPA Scotland Awards. Among classical music magazines, Diapason is the most read in France. Nostalgia magazines - An example of a nostalgia magazine is Keep Rockin'1950s & '60s nostalgia magazine. The Premier issue came out in January 2009. The magazine features a mixture of current events surrounding that time period (concerts, car shows, etc.) and stories with original photos from the 1950s & 1960s, as well as some reader-written articles about experiences growing up during that period.

Practise Music Magazine Advertisement:
Here is an image I took of a friend while practising with the camera. I felt that this would be a good base layer of a music magazine advertisement, as it has a certain feel to it that makes audience members want to know more about this character and what the story is behind photo, as I found out when asking for peoples opinion. I played around with the colours to make it seem more moody .

I then started adding important features of a magazine advert, the main one being the artist name and album title. For this I used the same font as I used on my practice CD Digipack. I placed these in opposite corners to make it seem more balanced. I then added a QR code which I got off of the internet.

I played around with the location of the QR code and CD cover, deciding to have them, like the artist name and album title, in opposite corners to make it look more balanced. I then decided to add some tour dates onto my magazine advert, as some bands tend to, as well as advertise their upcoming albums, also advertise their tour if they are touring at the time of the release. I then added links to the bands Facebook and Twitter pages.

After getting some feedback from audience members, I decided to change the font of the text, as the feedback I received suggested that the previous font was harder to read, thus I changed it to a more simple font that is easier to read. I also changed the alignment of the tour dates as I felt that it made it look neater by doing so. I feel that this practice magazine advert looks quite good, however I feel that I could have done certain things to further improve the overall project. This being said I didn't worry about this too much as it was only a practice piece, and I would use the knowledge I gained from this to make my actual Advertisement the best I could.

Music Magazine Advertisement:

This is a screenshot taken from my music video filming. I felt that this image was quite nice, it sums up the plot for my music video, without giving away the actual storyline, making the audience want to watch the music video and buy the album. It is for this reason why I chose the image for the bace layer of my my music magazine advertisement.

I took my chosen image and uploaded it to Adobe Premier Pro. As with the CD Digipack, I used the 'Fresco' image filter. this was to have similarity throughout my project.

I then added the artist name and album title. As with my practice magazine advert, I put these in opposite corners to help balance it all out. I used the same font, 'Hobo Std', as is on my Digipack, this time using black font colour instead of white as I felt that black stood out more than white.

I found some tour dates form the bands website and included them to my advert, changing the locations to British arenas as all the actual tour locations are overseas. I placed the dates into the top right hand corner so that it was out of the way but not so much that viewers would not notice them.

Following this I then added the bands web address and links to their Facebook and Twitter pages. These were located at the top to the image. this was because I didn't want the audience to loose the base image due to the fact that it helps with understanding what the album/ music video is about. I then added the QR code into the bottom left corner.Lastly I put the words 'Out Now!' This was partly to balance out the whole thing as the internet links are at the top.

Here is my final Music Magazine Advertisement.
