Editing My Music Video

Today I started the process of editing for my music video. First I loaded up Adobe Premiere Pro and imported all the footage I had got from my filming. As well as the footage I alos imported the soundtrack into the software.

I then quickly made a title slide to go at the beginning of the video saying who the artist is, what the song is called and my name. This was very simple to do and only took a couple of minutes.
After this, I then got to work. I put the track into the work area and started looking through my footage and cutting it up to make into a video.

I started with the first lot of footage, where Lisa first meets Tom, and where she is looking on her laptop. this was fairly simple to do as I had the initial idea in my head so all I needed to do was look for the best footage, cut it to size and put it with the music.
Once I had gotten started it became was easy, until I came up against a problem...

Some of the clips had become over exposed when I filmed them and other clips had stayed at the correct exposure. At first I thought this would be a big problem, but after asking for assistance I found a solution;
I went to the Video effects, then to Colour Correction and there was an effect called 'Luma Curve'. This allowed me to adjust the brightness of the clip to make it brighter. After spending a bit of time playing around with this I managed to get it to where I wanted it to be;
The result was not perfect but it was good enough for how I wanted it.

Once I'd put all the clips together I decided to add transitions to some of the clips, to make the whole piece more fluid and less like it was just one scene after another.

There is one section of my music video where Tom and Lisa are sat at the table talking. I got several different clips of them talking, laughing, drinking etc but wanted to make it look like time was passing, therefore I used the 'Film Dissolve' effect as I felt that this effect made the clips look like time was passing, it also gave the clips a more professional look too.

After adding a few more effects here and there and looking at the clips to see if there was anything I could change I had reached the end. My music video was done. I got a few people to watch it before finally exporting and uploading to the internet and all the feedback was good, so I went ahead and finished it.

Filming: Day 2

Todays filming was for the scene in which Lisa enters a coffee shop and spots Tom, who notices her and approaches her. They then start talking and finally they leave the shop together.

Filming: Day 1

Today I started to film for my mysic video. I first filmed the scene in which Lisa is sat in a house on a laptop looking at Toms Facebook profile. After filming all I needed in the house, I then ventured out and filmed the scene where the two characters first meet. Planning: Equipment

In order to create a good piece of work I will need to use high quality equipment. Below is a list of some of the equipment I shall be using to film my music video:

Camera:
This is the type of camera I shall be using; the Canon EOS. It is a high quality camera with:

  • Superior 12-megapixel image quality
  • On-screen Feature Guide
  • Creative Auto and Basic+ HD video capture
  • ISO 100-6400 sensitivity
  • Wide-area 9-point AF system
  • 63-zone iFCL exposure metering
  • 6.8cm (2.7”), 230,000-dot screen

Tripod:

The reason why I will be using a tripod for my filming is because it makes the shots steadier and gives the footage a more professional look to it whereas if I did my filming without a tripod the footage would be shakey and look  more amature. Because of the tripods telescopic legs, it can be set up on any type of flooring whether it be completely flat or on a mildly steep hill. With the tripod you can perform shots like a panning shot, a tilt shot, a tracking shot (made easier with a set of atachable wheels) along with many others.

iPod Touch:

I will be using my own iPod Touch to play the song that my music video is based on. This was to help my actors to get a feel for the song and to help them move/act in time with the song. This will help later in the editing process as I can look at whether the actor(s) are, for example, walking to the beat and then edit that into my music video to make it look more of a professional piece of work.

Planning: Mise-En-Scene

Scene 1- Outdoors:
  • Phone for Lisa to be on while walking down street
Scene 2- Park Bench:
  • Phone
  • Lisas hand bag
Scene 3- House:
  • Arm chair for Lisa to sit on.
  • Laptop for Lisa to be looking at
  • Mirror for Lisa to look at her face in
Scene 4- Coffee Shop:
  • Chairs for actors to sit on
  • Table for actors to sit at.
  • 2x Hot Chocolates for actors to drink

Planning: Costumes

Because of the type of song it is, I am letting my actors wear what they want, this is because I feel that their style already suits the song so I dont need them to really change anything.

Tom: I would like Tom to wear jeans, a colourful t- shirt and trainers, with the possible addition of his jacket.
Lisa: I would like Lisa to be in something bright and bold, perhaps a long t- shirt. Lisa also has bright red hair so that adds to the costume. For her lower half perhaps leggings and some plimsoles.

Oliver (Extra): As Oliver is a waiter, and is playing a waiter in my video, I want him to be dressed in a white shirt, black trousers, black shoes and an apron.
